I replaced a pretty old and dirty fan on the porch with this nice fan. It looks sooo much better, with a modern and upscale look. It's already wired to a wall switch so I did not have a need for It has a lot of airflow, more than I need in my rather tight quarters on the porch. It helps to lift the smoke and heat away from the BBQ unit. It was easy to install, I flush mounted it like the previous fan. All in all, a nice basic fan for outdoor (but protected) locations.I got this 52” in Renew Select patio Fan, for my covered patio. I have lived in South Florida for over 25 years, built 2 homes and have installed over A dozen fans. This was one of the easiest installations I have ever done (I am 71 years old). I just followed their instructions and that was it. No balancing of the blades was necessary. A solid installation, the only thing lacking is a light kit. The fan has the wires already installed for a light kit, but when I called Customer service asking for a kit, they had no knowledge of what light kit would fit it. I did install a fan light kit I got from the big box store, it works and I am happy! This patio fan was installed in our garage to help get air moving and has done a great job so far. Although its considered a "patio fan", i've had zero issues with moisture or warping of the blades. Super easy to install, moves the air nicely, and was overall exactly what I needed. Highly recommended. There is a lot to like about this fan, but some issues to consider before you buy. First, the mounting system is really for flat ceilings. The maximum tilt is 22%, so if you have a steeper ceiling, it will not work. It is a quiet fan and works well. The styling is interesting in that it is a bit on the modern side but could work in a cottage decor as well. It is not the most energy efficient fan you can buy and the documentation is conflicting. Manufacturer website says it is 50 watts running. The Energy Efficiency label says 37 watts. The actually shipping box shows between 78 and 100 watts. Hard to say which is correct for calculating energy usage.I wanted a fan for my covered porch outside to help keep cool in the summer months. I was all set to choose one from my big box hardware store when this showed up on the Vine. I wasn't familiar with the Kichler name so did a bit of research and what I read was positive, so I figured I'd give it a go.This fan doesn't have a light fitting. If having a light is important, choose a different one. It's wired such that it could probably take a different base to add a light but doesn't come with one. It looks like it's designed to work well in all sorts of different settings, installations and locations. It comes with a hook and support cord - apparently it's a legal requirement in Canada, presumably in case the fan falls off the mount - and it was surprising just what it took to cut it because I didn't want it. I don't doubt it would support the fan if it fell.It comes with long wires so you can cut them to length. I was surprised at just how long the wires were - it gave me the impression I could have connected it to next door's electricity supply. It's good to have enough to work with but I'm not sure I really needed quite so much, it was enough to push past being useful and into being this honking great length of wire that just got in the way.I opted for the downrod installation. It's easy enough to do, it's a bit fiddly getting everything through the downrod but no more so than any other downrod. If you go for close mount you don't need to deal with the downrod.Once it's all set up it's a nice looking fan. I put the black side of the blades downwards and they complement the brushed nickel finish nicely. I'm pleased with how it looks on my porch and with the airflow it produces. It's enough to help keep cool without blowing out my citronella candle. I'd be interested to find out if I can add a light fitting to it, as it would be nice to have the option to turn on a porch light where the fan is. If it's not a sensible proposition it's not a big deal - I still like the fan. This is a nice-looking fan that I’m putting in our enclosed back porch. I thought 52-inches would be a good size to cover the area & I look forward to the warmer weather so we can sit in our hammocks, drink our iced tea & feel the cool breeze.I got the brushed nickel because it’ll go with anything we want to put out there. The blades can be switched to the other side, which are satin black finish. It is made for using outdoors in a protected area. As with other fans, for cold weather usage, the blades can be switched clockwise so the upward airflow moves the warm air off the ceiling. In warm weather, it will go counter clockwise so the downward airflow creates a cooling effect. Just don’t try to change directions of the fan while it’s moving or it can be damaged. There are mounting options with this fan. While our ceiling is flat, there’s no problem with mounting it. It can be mounted on a vaulted or sloped ceiling by getting a longer down rod that’s a minimum of 12-inches.Instructions for installation are clear & detailed. There isn’t a remote control for this fan. It has a three-speed pull chain where one pull is for high, two is for medium, three for low & four to turn it off. It’s very easy to operate. It’s a nice & practical touch for our enclosed porch & it’ll get a lot of use this summer. This fan looks great on our screen porch. I wasn’t 100% certain I’d like it from the photos but it’s very elegant and understated in person. Installation is a snap, with clear (if a bit convoluted) instructions. A DIY-er can do this easily, but if you’re not familiar with electrical wiring it might be best to hire an electrician or a friend.I used the down rod for my installation, and although there isn’t a set screw to lock it in place it self-balances and stays in perfect position without any wobble thanks to some clever texturing on the down rod ball. It’s quiet, puts out a nice breeze considering the size, and I was glad to find an outdoor-rated fan at a reasonable price. It’s not easy these days. I’m very pleased.
