we sit about 7 to 8 feet apart at our computers in the front room, i've never actually measured but just eyeballed, a room that is about 15 by 18. this fan on setting 1 with the ionizer turned on, sitting on a solid wood table is cooling him off at 5 feet. not me, because it's facing him so i just ordered a second one to face my way next time. the sound is about that of a ten year old pc tower or a 30 year old air conditioner in a motel. it is a smooth wind noise, no rattling, no whining, and it's like background sound. i have massive head injury and this doesn't bother me! that is a godsend, truly.the tall tower much more expensive honey something fan we have is agony even at the lowest setting, which is no its default. on that monstrosity you have to go through 3 settings for not as loud and two more to ionize. apparently honeydo or whoever decided people like jet airplanes and non ionized air as a default, yuck. this fan has its 3 speeds and ionize on separate buttons, yay!ionizers work by taking the yuck out of the air. google it. it's a health thing for people who are sensitive to mold.ok, it's not going to cool off a huge area, but even with it facing away from me it is noticeably cooler about two feet away. it should be quieter on carpet or maybe a pot holder or little towel, but on solid oak it's fine for us. i'm just not going to run it when i'm using the coffee maker on the same 6 thing cord but other than that it's helping a june where we are praying for rain in california every day. i recommend this highly. 9.9 stars. 10 if it would have had a way to go back and forth.
